Week Ending 11-5-16 Top Return on Investment Wide Receivers

What is Wide Receiver Return on Investment?

In short, ROI represents the amount of yards a receiver generates in excess of his distribution quota.   This allows us to see which receivers make the most of their opportunities.

Week 10 Update

Most teams will be playing their 10th games this coming weekend.  As the season comes to a close we will be honing in on the strongest ROI players for the 2016/17 college football season, that is, as calculated without bulk Target information that will not be available until season end.   (Hey, I'm too lazy to go through play by play for 150 players, ok?) Several games this weekend that will further clarify or muddy the Playoff picture so it should be an exciting week.

Let's start with a recap of last week's,"Players to Watch".

Syracuse's Amba Etta-Tawo had 9/84/0 vs. Clemson which allowed 24/172/0 overall.  Yards well disbursed, not simply garbage time yards. Solid outing given he was the only playmaker on the field for the Orangemen.

Northwestern's Austin Carr  went 12/132/1 vs. Wisconsin which allowed 28/277/1 to the Wildcats as a whole.  Austin is a high volume guy who gets the ball underneath on many crossing or clear out patterns.

Florida Atlantic's Kalib Woods went 3/25/0 vs. Rice that allowed 16/321/2 that day so he underrepresented in a soft matchup vs the worst passing defense in the land.  He will have to work on that.

The champ goes down!  _ Jimmy Williams had held the top spot the last couple of weeks but has been knocked of by Deanglo Yancey of Purdue who had a nice 4/126/1 (out of 29/391/4) performance vs. Minnesota.  Also notable is his Receptions per Touchdown ratio is #6 of the ROI qualifiers at one TD every 4.9 receptions (average is 10.8 recs/TD). Yancey was incredibly efficient last year (finishing in the tops for ROI) and we'll see if he can continue to forge a name for himself.

Victor Bolden of Oregon State made his first appearance on the list at #16 (previously did not qualify) with a 4/109/1 line in a losing effort vs. Stanford.

FCS also got a new king this week with Jaris Scott of Davidson dethroning Christian Summers of Towson who sat at WR1 for two consecutive weeks. Scott, a 6'3" 193lbs JR from my paternal homeland of Jacksonville, FL, was punter his freshman year, moving to WR full-time since (he also kicked field goals in HS). He's intriguing for a number of reasons and we will keep a close eye on him through his senior year.
As in previous weeks, the margin of difference between FCS ROI receives is razor thin, so we will see if Scott can maintain or if Summers (or some other WR for that matter) can capture the top spot.

Shameless Self-Promotion!
