Week 7 NCAA WR Return on Investment Leaders in Review

Week 7 Shake Up!

No player was safe in Week 7.  Players who were weekly perched atop the Return on Investment rankings are now looking up at a new leader.

ROI represents the amount of yards a Wide Receiver generates in excess of his distribution  - Post Season ROI will consider Targets, Receptions and Yards, however, In-Season ROI will consider just Receptions and Yards (unless someone knows a site that provides target data during the season).

For a more detailed description, follow this link to the article on Return on Investment.

The fact that this week marks the first time this year Texas A&M WR Josh Reynolds has garnered the WR#1 spot shows I'm not stacking the numbers in favor of my "guys" because Reynolds is "my guy".  The former JUCO star has been highly efficient his entire TAMU career.  His efficiency output is all the more impressive (he provides 52.3% more yards than his reception allocation) when you consider he stands out from a TAMU WR corps that is considered by some to be the best in football.

Eight of the top Ten draft eligible ROI WRs are juniors so it will be interesting how many declare and actually impact the 2017 NFL draft.

Last Week's Players To Watch

Cody Thompson vs  BGSU 6/74/0
Jared Cornelius vs Ole Miss 3/40/0
Kenny Golladay vs Central Mich 7/70

No one to watch had any great output however, Carlos Henderson of LA Tech rose to 7th with a huge game last week vs. U Mass going off for 12/326/5 which dwarfed his previous best the week before of 8/232/3 vs. Western Kentucky.  He had fairly productive games vs. Arkansas and Texas Tech too, so he's playing up to competition.

This Week's Top ROI Players to Watch

TAMU's Josh Reynolds @ Alabama - This will be THE test for the entire Aggies team.  A solid performance can mean a big boost not only for the team's bowl position, but also for potential draft position.

TCU's Taj Williams @ West Virginia - WVU is the number 12 team in the country and number 15 in terms of passing defense.  I have been suspect of TCU this year but if they can continue to get explosive plays Williams has a chance to leapfrog into WR1.

Ark's Jared Cornelius @ Auburn - Last week he had a middling game vs. Ole Miss, now he faces another daunting task in the Top 25 Auburn passing defense.

Utah's Tim Patrick @ UCLA- Although UCLA has not lived up to the preseason hype, they still have the nation's #6 passing defense.  Utah could close out the Bruins league championship hopes with a win in this pivotal league game.

Liberty WR Dante Shells took the week off and, after the bye, resumed his spot as WR#1 on FBS. Many new players cracked the top 20 list, but do they have what it takes to stay?

Keelan Cole had occupied the top spot in DII in terms of WR ROI since the first ranking report. Now, he has been overcome by Black Hill State's own 6'2" 200lbs receiver Shandon Jones.   Jones boasts the highest ROI of any draft eligible playe (he generates 86.8% more yards than his pro rate share).

Enjoy the games this weekend and check back for the update WR ROI lists after Monday Night Football.
