Week Ending 11-12-16 Return On Investment Update

Hard to believe we are about to enter the 12th week of the 2016 season.  The conference championship games will start to clarify over the next couple of weeks so it should be an exciting holiday season.

What is Wide Receiver Return on Investment?

In short, ROI represents the amount of yards a receiver generates in excess of his distribution quota.   This allows us to see which receivers make the most of their opportunities.

Based on the table above, Purdue's DeAngelo Yancey repeated as the most efficient receiver in FBS, with a QB accuracy adjusted Return on Investment of 74.6% more yards than expected for his reception distribution.   His ROI is about 4.6x better than the average WR in FBS.

In terms of touchdown production, Carlos Henderson of Louisana Tech takes it to the house once every 3.8 receptions (that's good for third of all draft eligible FBS WRs).

FCS Top Performers

For all intents and purposes, the final week of the FCS regular season is upon us (2 games will be played next week).  While not all players will be fortunate enough to enter the playoffs, all WRs will continue to see their ROI measures fluctuate as the playoff stats will impacted the averages against which all players are measured.

Jaris Scott repeats as ROI WR1 in FCS but increased his margin from 1.3% to 4.1% over Towson's Christian Summers.  With one game remaining for most of the top 20, you should expect some movement in the rankings since non-playoff seniors will likely want to end their collegiate careers with a bang.
